That self belief and perseverance was typical of the man, and in fact, it could be said that it was in his blood.
His forefathers had been a formidable lot, famous for the relentless pursuit and capture of pirate ships off the west coast of Scotland. For these brave deeds, the family was awarded a crest by the monarchy, bearing the motto “Sine Metu” or in Latin, “without fear”. So it seems that as his forefathers were “Sine Metu” in their noble deeds, so John Jameson was “Sine Metu” in the building of his ambitious dream.
This “Sine Metu” motto adorns each bottle of Jameson Irish whiskey to this day and is a reminder of the company’s ongoing adherence to the standards of excellence conceived by John Jameson himself.
