Must Be A Jameson Football Manager
It’s said that being a football manager is a lonely job, but we’ve been on a mission to turn that statement on its head. Working with the team at the much-loved Football Manager game, we challenged the entire community to take iconic League Two side Newport County to the third tier of English football, with retired professional footballer Steve Sidwell leading the charge in his first ever managerial role. He joined comedian and Football Manager fanatic Tony Jameson to co-host “Must Be A Jameson Manager”, an interactive Football Manager Twitch challenge created by Jameson Irish Whiskey, official spirits partner of the EFL.
On 14th February, the blossoming ‘bromance’ between football legend Steve Sidwell and Twitch streamer Tony Jameson came to the fore, as the unlikely duo managed to guide the mighty Newport County to virtual promotion after a blockbuster Football Manager online campaign. There were many ups, and of course, a few downs along the away, but with the Football Manager community coming out in full force to offer their support (and much needed advice), it was never really in doubt. A big thanks everyone who watched the streams, chucked in their two cents and followed our journey to the ‘promised land’, we couldn’t have done it without you! However, the question remains… do we run it back again next year?

What to expect…
Combining Steve’s on pitch expertise with Tony’s Football Manager gaming savvy does sound like a recipe for success. But there was one playful twist… this wasn’t just about Steve and Tony. The Football Manager community were the real gaffers, helping make all the critical decisions, from squad selections to in-game tactics, steering the team’s fate in real time, through the Twitch live chat.
Head to our football hub to find out how else we’ve been celebrating the beautiful game.

What does the gaffer have to say?
“I’m really excited to work with Jameson, an iconic brand doing some brilliant work as a proud partner of the EFL. Whilst it won’t be easy to get Newport into the promised land, I can assure you that Tony and I will leave no stone unturned as we look to make the local South Wales community proud,” says Steve Sidwell.
