Ah yes, marvelous March. The days get brighter, Spring starts to show off, and optimism is back. At Jameson, we’re big fans.

March also happens to bring our favorite holiday: St. Patrick’s Day. As the world’s No.1 Irish whiskey, it’s a day close to our hearts, and one we love sharing with the world. So, here’s a quick guide on why everything turns green in March.

What is St. Patrick’s Day?

St. Patrick’s Day celebrates Irish culture, heritage, and pride – at home and across the globe. March 17th, honors Saint Patrick, the man credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland in the 5th century. While many national holidays mark a single historic event, St. Patrick’s Day has evolved into something broader: a celebration of Irish identity. At its core, it began as a religious feast day, officially recognized in the 17th century. Today, it’s both a nod to tradition and a celebration of Irishness.

Why we Celebrate It Worldwide?

Many St. Patrick’s Day traditions didn’t begin in Ireland — they were shaped by the Irish diaspora.
The first parade took place in Florida in 1601, with New York later helping turn it into a global celebration. Ireland didn’t host its own parade until 1903.

Irish immigrants transformed the day from a religious observance into a celebration of culture. While some traditions are Irish-American, the heart of the holiday — music, togetherness, and raising a glass — comes straight from Ireland and now unites people worldwide.

On March 17th, wherever you are, everyone’s a little bit Irish. Sláinte.
