What is the difference between the Old Jameson Distillery and the Jameson Experience at the Midleton Distillery?

This is a good question and one we are asked quite a bit so hope this clarifies things a little...The Old Jameson Distillery in Dublin is located on the site of the original Whiskey distillery founded by John Jameson in 1780. Whiskey distilling ceased on this site in the early 1970's and visitors are treated to a recreated distillery scene in Ireland's bustling capital. Our visitor centre in Midleton is located on the site of the Jameson distillery however visitors do not have access to the working distillery, sorry folks! You will however be able to explore the site of the Old Midleton Distillery which explains the history and craft of producing Jameson Irish Whiskey; a very special experience indeed. How to enjoy Jameson

What is the best way to drink Jameson; neat or with water?

Now we don't want you to think we're sitting on the fence here but we believe that there is no right or a wrong way to drink Jameson. The millions already converted are relaxed about where, when and how they enjoy this tripled distilled Irish whiskey. The most popular ways in which people mix it up are with ginger ale and a wedge of lime, cranberry juice or cola. In saying this, our master distillers recommend adding a drop of water to release the full flavours of the whiskey when drinking it neat.

What is the alcoholic strength of a measure of Jameson Irish Whiskey?

Today we define alcoholic strength in terms of percentage alcohol by volume (ABV). In the United States measurement is defined in terms of proof. A bottle and indeed a measure of Jameson is 40% alcohol by volume.

What age is the whiskey in a bottle of Jameson Irish Whiskey?

Now this is an important one! Legally Irish Whiskey must be matured on the island of Ireland for a minimum of 3 years. Jameson is, however, matured for between 5 and 7 years. This along with the fact that it is triple distilled, accounts for the smooth taste that we all love. Once bottled, the whiskey itself does not age further nor should it change in terms of taste and character. Slainte!

What are the ingredients used to make Jameson Irish Whiskey?

Jameson Irish Whiskey is produced using only three ingredients, malted barley, unmalted barley and pure water. Each ingredient is as important as the other. It is perfectly balanced fusion of these which creates the unique Jameson taste. The water for Jameson is pure, natural spring water drawn from the Dungourney River that flows through Midleton Distillery.

How many calories in a serving of Jameson Irish Whiskey?

There are approximately 72 calories per 3.5cl (35ml) measure.

Is Jameson gluten free?

Yes Jameson is gluten free and is therefore suitable for a celiac to drink. This is because the distillation removes any residual cereal protein. Also, no wheat paste is used in sealing our barrels.

I am a vegan and wondering if I can enjoy Jameson Irish Whiskey?

We have good news for you! Jameson Irish Whiskey is suitable for vegans. No animal products of any description (including milk, eggs, honey, gelatin, isinglass etc) are used in the manufacture of Jameson.

How much sugar is in Jameson Irish Whiskey?

Do you know the expression "No sugar for me thanks, I'm sweet enough already"? Well that's the case for Jameson to which no sugar is added.

What is the significance of the digits JQ-058548 that appear on every bottle of Jameson?

This is no secret actually. The number on the neck label JQ-058548 does not hold any major significance today. Up until 1987 however, it did register sequential batch numbers but since then this number has just become part of the neck label on each and every bottle. So you see Jameson doesn't keep secrets!

Is it possible to personalise a bottle as a treat for myself or a gift for someone?

Yes, the Jameson 12 year Old Personalised Distillery Reserve costs €52.00 and is available exclusively at the Old Jameson Distillery, Dublin and the Jameson Experience Midleton, Cork.
