THE INSIDER’S GUIDE TO MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR TRIP TO DUBLIN.
DO IT LIKE A LOCAL
If you’re headed for a city break in Dublin anytime soon, you’re in for a treat.
We’re a little biased but we think the area around Jameson Distillery Bow St. depicts the modern spirit of Dublin. Why, we hear you ask. Well, Smithfield has been home to Jameson for over 200 years, and although a lot has changed since then, this neighbourhood has celebrated an eclectic mix of the old and the new from the beginning.
You’ll be spoilt for choice with chic cafés, buzzing pubs, and foodie havens around every corner (not to mention, Smithfield also happens to be home to the newly crowned World’s Leading Distillery Tour). And on any day of the week it’s not unusual to walk into a nearby pub as a traditional Irish music session kicks-off. If you’re hungry (or thirsty) to find out more, here’s a few ideas to help you to discover the area like a true Dubliner.
Nestled in a small cobblestone laneway between the River Liffey and Smithfield Square, you’ll find a speciality café hidden away. Urbanity serves up scrumptious meals (highly instagrammable) and they even roast their own coffee. Caffeine fix, tick. We can definitely vouch for their all-day breakfast too, which might come in handy if you’re seeking the perfect brunch spot.
You might think we’re crazy for suggesting a movie on your city break, but hear us out (or scroll on past, we won’t be offended). The LightHouse cinema is one of Dublin’s most vibrant cultural spaces and has the title for The Coolest Cinema in the World.
Still not impressed? It even has its own bar and plenty of colourful chill-out areas to take a break from the bustling city. If you need more convincing take the virtual tour and you’ll see what we mean - https://lighthousecinema.ie//your-visit/virtual-tour
As you visit the country that invented the Irish Coffee, it’s no surprise Dublin has a thriving coffee culture. Grab a cuppa (or hot chocolate) in Oxmantown before you head on to discover more.
Take a walk around the neighbourhood and you can’t miss Smithfield’s countless murals by talented Dubin artists, more for your #InstaFeed. Here’s a sneak peek…
We’re not one to blow our own trumpets but our Jameson Distillery Bow St. was awarded the ‘World’s Leading Distillery Tour’ in 2018. It’s an award which celebrates excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry globally and a nice nod to all our Bow St. barrelmen.
However, it’s one thing to win a prestigious award, it’s another thing to keep winning with the Jameson fans. And now we’ve raised the bar, our ambition is to keep it up.
Learn to shake it like the best of them in our Cocktail Making Class or become a master of whiskey blending yourself in the Whiskey Makers Experience. And don’t forget our flagship tour, the Bow St. Experience where you’ll learn what makes Jameson, Jameson.
Booking online is advised, as it just so happens that the home of Jameson is a popular place to be.
As the evening begins and the sun goes down, why not head over to Token bar for some retro arcade games and gourmet fast food.
As the night continues, we expect you’ll be searching for some traditional Irish music. The Cobblestone will be right up your street..
When you’re ready to call it a night, make one last stop at Delaney’s pub for a cheese toastie. It doesn’t get more Dublin than that.
Hope that helps you make the most out of your trip to Dublin.
