One of the biggest parties on the planet, St. Patrick’s Day commemorates the patron saint of Ireland who brought Christianity to its people in the 5th century. Celebrated in more countries than any other national festival, St. Paddy’s Day, as it’s also known, gets people partying every March 17th not just on the Emerald Isle, but in the rest of the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and right here in the Philippines.

Why the Philippines? Well, when you think about it, Filipinos share a lot in common with the Irish. Like a friendly, sociable nature, an appreciation of spending quality time together with family and friends over a drink or two, a love of partying of course, and a liking for good Irish whiskey. Jameson, Ginger & Lime

Jameson, Ginger & Lime 

Headlining our list of St. Paddy’s Day drinks, the JGL is a real thirst quencher, perfect now that things are starting to heat up. This simple summer cocktail couldn’t be easier to make either. All you need is Jameson Irish Whiskey, ginger ale and a wedge of lime.

  • 50ml Jameson Irish Whiskey
  • Schweppes Ginger Ale
  • Large wedge of lime
  • Fill a high ball glass with ice
  • Pour in a shot of Jameson
  • Top up the glass with a good quality bottled ginger ale
  • Stir briefly to mix
  • Take a large wedge of lime, give it a squeeze and drop it into the glass

Ingredients

  • 50ml Jameson Irish Whiskey
  • Schweppes Ginger Ale

How To Make

  • Fill a high ball glass with ice
  • Pour in a shot of Jameson
  • Top up the glass with a good quality bottled ginger ale

The Irish Cocktail

The Irish Cocktail 

Of all the drinks to come out of Ireland, this is the only one known simply as “The Irish Cocktail”, so you know it’s good. This recipe first appeared in the 1888 edition of Harry Johnson’s celebrated Bartenders’ Manual, which means it’s got plenty of history too. A worthy addition to our Paddy’s Day cocktails collection.

  • 60ml Jameson Irish Whiskey
  • 2 dashes Pernod Absinthe
  • 2 dashes curaҫao
  • 1 dash maraschino liqueur
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • 1 olive for garnish
  • Fill a glass with ice
  • Add all the ingredients
  • Stir until ice cold
  • Strain into a chilled sherry glass
  • Flame a piece of orange peel and squeeze the zest over the cocktail
  • Garnish with an olive

Ingredients

Not a Shamrock Shake

Not a Shamrock Shake 

Legend has it that St. Patrick used the three leaves of a shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish. Third on our list, naturally, Not a Shamrock Shake is one for your collection of green St. Patrick’s Day drinks. As green as the Emerald Isle herself. And just as inviting!

  • 45ml Jameson
  • 30ml lemon juice
  • 30ml homemade simple syrup
  • 8 fresh basil leaves
  • 40ml sparkling white wine
  • For the simple syrup, just add 1 part boiling water to 1 part sugar. Stir well to dissolve, bottle and refrigerate until cool. Simple!
  • Lightly muddle 7 of the basil leaves in a cocktail shaker. If you don’t have a cocktail shaker or muddler, a Mason jar and wooden spoon will do just as well.
  • Add your Jameson, lemon juice, simple syrup, and shake with ice
  • Double strain into a chilled tall glass filled with ice
  • Top with sparkling white wine and garnish with the remaining basil leaf

Surely one of the simplest St. Patrick’s Day drink recipes, Jameson Stout Edition & Soda is a refreshing long drink, best enjoyed with good friends. See how well the orange wedge works with the chocolatey notes of the Stout, patiently finished in Irish craft beer-seasoned barrels.

  • Grab a glass and fill it with ice
  • Pour in the Jameson Stout Edition
  • Top up the glass with a good quality bottled soda water
  • Take an orange wedge and drop it into the glass
  • Drop in 2 dashes of Angostura bitters if it takes your fancy!

The Irish Wolfhound

The Irish Wolfhound

Hands down one of the most Irish drinks for St. Patrick’s Day, this cocktail is named after one Irish legend and made with another: triple distilled, twice charred, for a rich smooth taste, Jameson Black Barrel. Enjoy the whiskey's smooth sweetness of spice and vanilla mixed with grapefruit and ginger flavors.

  • 50ml Jameson Black Barrel
  • 50ml ginger beer
  • 20ml pink grapefruit juice
  • 10ml blackcurrant cordial
  • Smoked salt
  • Grapefruit half slices for garnish
  • Mix the Jameson, ginger beer, grapefruit juice and blackcurrant cordial in a glass, together with some ice
  • Garnish with a pair of grapefruit half slices
  • Dip a corner of one of the grapefruit slices in the smoked salt and drop it into the glass
  • For a Salty Wolfhound, add salt to the rim of the glass

There’s no better way to get your St. Patrick’s Day party started than with a bowl of punch. Quick and easy to serve, leaving you more time to get into the Irish spirit!

  • 500ml Jameson
  • 200ml lemon juice
  • 200ml pear juice
  • 450ml breakfast tea
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 bay leaves
  • 250ml homemade demerara syrup
  • Bay leaves and pear slices for garnish
  • For the breakfast tea, add 2 tea bags to 450ml of hot water and allow to infuse for 15 minutes.
  • Remove the tea bags and allow the tea to cool before adding to the punch
  • For the demerara syrup, just add 250g boiling water to 250g demerara sugar.
  • Stir well to dissolve, bottle, and refrigerate until cool. Done!
  • Add all the ingredients to a punch bowl with plenty of ice and stir
  • Serve in a chilled rocks glass over ice and garnish with a bay leaf and a pear slice

The Granny Smithfield

One of our tastiest summer cocktails, this delicious apple drink is named after the original home of Jameson Irish Whiskey in Dublin and the Granny Smith apples that make it so tasty. Serving 10-12 people, the last of our St. Patrick’s Day cocktail recipes use just a handful of simple ingredients. Even your Granny could make it!

  • 1 bottle of Jameson
  • 7 green apples, cored and sliced
  • Zest and juice of 2 lemons
  • 200g sugar
  • 200ml boiling water
  • 1 liter sparkling water
  • Add 6 of the green apples, the zest and juice of the lemons, sugar and boiling water to a blender
  • Blend until smooth, then leave to sit for 1 hour
  • Sieve the mixture into a punch bowl
  • Add the Jameson, sparkling water, and stir
  • Serve in a short glass over ice and garnish with the remaining apple slices
